Q.216 - How can I have a quick & easy look at a PDB file ?

With the script file://rose.bmc.uu.se/pub/gerard/omac/getpdb . It takes one argument, namely the PDB ID of a structure you want to look at with O. You can execute it from within O, e.g.:

  O > $ getpdb 1guh

It does the following:

• - list some of the header records
• - create an O macro 1guh.get which, when executed, will read the structure, draw it, and centre in the middle of it (without you having to worry about residue names !)
• - create an O macro 1guh.kill when, when executed, will kill all datablocks pertaining to the molecule and delete the graphics object

Outside Uppsala: the directory where you keep your local set of PDB files needs to be edited inside the script. Also, it assumes that you use the filename extension ".pdb" for your PDB files.
