Installing ARP/wARP 

The installation of ARP/wARP is straightforward.

• Install (or make sure you have installed) the CCP4 suite [9] (Version 4.2, CCP4 homepage http://www.dl.ac.uk/CCP/CCP4/main.html)
• Download the full ARP/wARP package arp_warp_6.0.tar.gz from the web page. Reading this you have most likely already done so.
  Unzip ('gunzip arp_warp_6.0.tar.gz') and untar ('tar xvf arp_warp_6.0.tar') it. The distribution contains the following:
  • src/: This directory includes several other subdirectories with system specific binaries and other files for ARP/wARP . We supply binaries for the Irix, Irix64, OSF1, Linux systems and OSX which work to the best of our knowledge. Files are provided for most of the modules - the part of the work that is published and more or less done.
  • examples/: An example of ARP/wARP usage Leishmanolysin [10] , to improve the SIRAS map and then auto-build (Thanks to P. Metcalf for diffraction data).
  • doc/: Guess what.
• Installation is done in the standard manner of simply running an install script. Go to the ARP/wARP directory and type './install.sh'. Two lines must be added to the .cshrc file to ensure that environment variables are set correctly. Source this file or log out and in again to activate these settings. Please see the README file in the arp_warp_6.0 directory for further details.
• You can have multiple operating system installation in the same basic directory structure. The setup lines will then recognise the machine type upon login and set up the correct binaries. To create these you have to run the ./install.sh script from each operating system you plan to use.
• Start CCP4I and setup your project if you use this CCP4I for the first time in your user account. Within the CCP4I go to "System administration" and uninstall any earlier version of arp_warp (if it is there). Actually, if you do not do that, the result will be unpredictable (outdated tcl scripts calling new executables ). Then install arp_warp_6.0 by navigating to the file arp_warp_6.0/ARP_wARP_CCP4I.tar.gz The interface should ungzip, untar and install arp_warp_6.0 automatically. Click on ARP/wARP (within the model building section).
  

  (We strongly recommend that the installation of the CCP4 GUI is done by the person who installed the CCP4 package, so all users have an up-to-date interface and also permission errors should be avoided.)

• It is strongly recommended to install the CCP4i graphical user interface. Only this method of program execution will be described in this manual and supported in the future.

In principle you should now be ready to run ARP/wARP $\!\!\!.$ We recommend trying to get the test example going (look at the README files in the subdirectories of examples/). If things still don't work please consult your system manager. If problems still remain, please contact the originators via the ARP/wARP Email Bulletin Board.
