The Gang Ren laboratory studies the human plasma lipoprotein structure in cholesterol metabolism. The High blood cholesterol is one of the major risk factors for atherosclerosis and coronary disease. Lipoproteins, as cholesterol carrier, are studied by electron cryo-microscopy (Cryo-EM) for addressing the question of how cholesterol transferred among low density lipoprotein (LDL), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and high density lipoprotein (HDL), corresponding to lipoprotein structural changes in cholesterol metablism.
