structural biology specialist
My research focuses on developing methods in 3D tomographic EM reconstructions. In particular I am interested in how to combine information from several different sources with tomographic reconstructions to solve symmetrical biological structures in 3D.
In addition to computational methods I also collaborate with lab members to help solve biological structures imaged by cryo and negative stain EM.
Before joining the Agard lab, I was a member of Dr. Harry Noller's lab at UC Santa Cruz. My research at UCSC focused on solving the x-ray structure of ribosomes isolated from the organism Thermus thermophilus. I also contributed to research efforts in the lab that included FRET studies, and methods in low resolution x-ray structure determination.
Outside of work my interests include, among other things, motorcycles, old trucks, and surfing.
